Adventureland
I'll take my future comedies with jokes from now on, thank you very much. I liked Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig in this movie, and that's about it.
Grade: D

Pink Panther 2
This is probably a case of reduced (i.e., no) expectations, but there were a few moments of fun in this movie. A soft plot saved by professional actors who know their way around a joke.
Grade: C+

Semi-Pro
A fun enough premise that gets a little lost on its way to the end. Will Ferrell was billed and promoted as the lead in this movie, but it's really more of an ensemble piece. Lots of great little roles that didn't add up to a great movie, but an entertaining enough hour and a half.
Grade: B-

Land Of The Lost
I rented this because I had to see if it was as bad as I thought. It's not. But while there are a couple of chuckle-worthy moments, it's close.
Grade: D+

Observe And Report
A surprisingly dark comedy. As I watched, I kept getting the impression that nobody thinks Seth Rogen is as funny as Seth Rogen does.
Grade: D

Star Trek
OH FUCK YEAH.
Grade: A

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of COBRA
It held up pretty well on the second viewing. Just a solid fun flick. And dare I say it, Marlon Wayans might have been the best character in the movie.
Grade: B

Yes Man
Yikes. I didn't expect much from this movie, short of a couple of laughs, and it still failed miserably. A solid cast wasted. Jim Carrey's also just a bit too old to be a convincing early-30s guy anymore, which only added to the off-puttingness.
Grade: F (Yes, I'm aware this is worse than I gave Land Of The Lost.)

Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans

I thought it was a lot of (often times wacky) fun and that Nic Cage's hypnotic performace really elevated it to something kinda special. I wish Nic Cage was this inspired more often. Hell, I want to see it again already!

A

The Untouchables

I saw this once back in the mid 90s and remember really enjoying it, so I was surprised to find that I didn't much enjoy it this time. What the hell happened in those fifteen years? Was it the mood/atmosphere/approach of the movie? I'm thinking that was a large part of it. It was a loud generic Hollywood movie without an ounce of subtlety, wit or heart. I found the Morricone score to be loud and annoying and announcing. And I get that's what they were going for with the movie. It was supposed to be an homage to those 40s gangsters amped up for the modern audience, but I found it grating. and I suppose I should say I'm a HUGE fan of a lot of Mamet's movies, but this lacked what makes Mamet's movies appealing to me.

The Invention Of Lying
Ricky Gervais has a strong concept here in creating a world where his character Mark is the only one who can lie, but the rest of the cast (minus Louis C.K., who's supposed to be the dumb sidekick) can't quite pull it off. Still, there are some scenes that are pretty solid.
Grade: B-

Management
Strong dramatic/slice-of-life comedy work from both Steve Zahn and Jennifer Aniston, both of whom always seem to be at their best in these smaller pictures.

I really liked the premise and all, but just didn't love the plot.
I found it to be a good, but not great movie. That said, I can
see why some people really loved the film. Either way, I think
it's a film well worth watching.
