My latest dvd rental adventures.

Dog Soldiers = A British horror movie about soldiers who stumble
upon a whole pack of werewolves.
RATING: B

Ultraviolet = This kind of X-Men type flick would have been much
better off being NC-17 and having Milla Jovovich be topless with
just a thong on the whole movie.
RATING: C-

It's All About Love = A sci-fi like drama starring Joaquin Phoenix,
Claire Danes and Sean Penn. I expected much more.
RATING: C-

Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One For The Road = These guys just
need to go away now, especially that fucking piece of shit Cable Guy.
RATING: F

I thought B+, though there were some unexplained plot points.

C'mon, you don't think Milla Jovovich is attractive? She has two "v"s in her name.

I loved Dog Soldiers. Really fun movie.

But for the love of god, why did you subject yourself to the Blue Collar Comedy Tour?

No. I don't understand the outright obsession some guys have with her.

Probably her propensity for showing up with swords. Rolling Eyes

that's unfair. any of her movies would have been better that way.

I think she's quite attractive. Great face. Plus she's a damn fine actor. Though I wish she were in more good movies.

I guess she better start choosing movies with better scripts.

she's not hot, but fit skinny naked chick is a plus to any movie.

True, but I don't need that if the movie has a good plot and writing.
I mean Ultraviolet relies pretty much on Jovovich's sex appeal, so
if that's gonna be the case then why not go all the way with it and
have her topless with just a thong on.

I think he's the only one that isn't actually a Hollywood actor pretending to be a redneck.

Is "Tater Salad" not a catchphrase? I don't follow these things too closely.

Yeah, I think the fact that those guys are putting on an act and not just being themselves is what really annoys me... well, that and the fact their jokes are moronic...

no it's a nickname, the origin is in one of his anecdotes. they play that thing on comedy central about every other day. his part of it is worth seeing once, i think. he has a completely different style than the rest of those choads.

i liked dog soldiers as well, I just saw Descent and it was decent (pun totally intended! I'm not ashamed!) but could have been a bit better. I enjoyed more of the fun injected in dog soldiers over the more serious tone of Descent, but it was a good one. I like the idea of a horror movie designed for a female audience though and it came across pretty authentically.

As for Milla Jovovich- I think she's quite pretty, but I haven't been able to force myself to sit through one of her movies in their entirety, so I can't like her thaaaat much.

Ron White's awesome. He's added some stuff to his routine, but it is starting to stale a little, now that he's famous.

Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall are okay, provided they're not humoring their taste-deprived audience with their "classic" material.

I've never found Larry the Cable Guy the least bit funny.

Firecracker
An off-beat David Lynch type drama about a traveling sideshow
carnival and a murder in a small Kansas town. It stars Karen Black
and singer-musician Mike Patton (plays two different roles).

I watched a few dvds over the weekend:

Jesus Is Magic. Sarah Silverman's first stand-up flick. It had it's moments! Including probably the first Martin Luther King jokes I've ever heard. C+

The Eye. Pretty deliberatly paced and creepy. It definetly seemed like it was tailor-made for an American remake though. B-

The Masters of Horror episode by that guy that did Bubba Ho-Tep and Phantasm. Not Bad. They need to make more shorter horror films. B-
